
Project Statement: Skin is Skin
This portrait series was part of an international marketing campaign for a lip balm manufactured in the village of Mékhé, Senegal, using traditional ingredients that are locally harvested.
This “Little Lip Balm on a Mission”, as it is referred to in the advertisement, is part of an entrepreneurial effort to lift the Mékhé community out of poverty by providing jobs, inspiration and a successful business model. Through a sophisticated branding agenda that emphasizes that skin is skin regardless of origin, it also addresses issues of race, equity and cultural diversity.
A socially responsible business with a goal of changing the world — a tall order for a tiny product. Their motto says it best: “We’re not just a lip balm. We’re a movement.”
